Marketing Insights
Have you implemented email newsletters into your content marketing strategy yet? No? Egads! What are you waiting for? Sorry, my incredulity here stems from not understanding why a small business wouldn’t take advantage of something that works so well. Email marketing has been proven time and time again to be one of the easiest, most effective ways to engage with customers. Don’t believe me? Here are a few no-brainer reasons why email marketing should be an indispensable tool in your marketing efforts.
#1. Email marketing is the king of mobile content
As if we haven’t beat this idea to death yet, content is, and always will be, king. And since a mobile experience is now obligatory, and 67% of people use a smartphone to check their email, email marketing is arguably the king of mobile content.
Why? Because it ties all of your content marketing efforts together online. It delivers a nice package of your content (blog posts, promotions, etc.) right into the hands of the people who want it on a channel where they prefer to receive it. This will lead them back to your website, allow them to share your content on social media, and increase your conversions by as much as 66%. Say what.
#2. It shows that people want what you’re puttin’ out there
Statistically, email is the preferred method of communication for consumers. When you allow people to “opt-in”, you give your audience the choice to sign up to receive your emails. This means, they WANT to stay in touch with you. They WANT to receive your promotions. They WANT your blog content. They let you know they want it when they sign up. Email marketing then becomes akin to handing a coupon, promotion, or announcement directly to the person asked for it. What better exposure could you ask for?
#3. It’s cheap!
Print advertising is $$$. Social media, meanwhile, is inundated with content from millions of businesses, brands and personalities. As a result, social media platforms have complex algorithms that make getting your content in front of your target market more and more challenging…unless you want to pay for it. Admittedly, it doesn’t cost much to sponsor content on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. But if you’re a small business on a tight marketing budget (if you have one at all), you need your pennies to stretch as far as they can go. Enter email marketing.
Email newsletters are cheap to produce and send. Providers like Mail Chimp offer free accounts for up to 2,000 email addresses. There are many others out there that will let you run an email newsletter campaign for less than $20 a month.
To sum up in one sentence:
In a world where (mobile) content is king, an email marketing strategy is an affordable and highly effective way to deliver your messaging directly to you audience.
Seriously, folks—if you’re not using email marketing… just fix that. You got this!
